Nina and Graeme’s was a very special wedding for several reasons. Not only are they two of the most endearing people I have ever met, but they have a special connection to Five Grain Events. Nina is one of Joan’s best friends from college and Joan was one of her bridesmaids! I was so happy to be involved throughout the planning process and see the day turn out so perfectly.
The morning started out at Hotel Lincoln, where the ladies had their hair styled by the fabulous Livia Caporale, and makeup done by the amazing Andie Cumber. While Nina was getting her makeup done, the bridesmaids snuck in the hallway so the Maids of Honor could practice their speech. While the ladies were busy getting ready, the groomsmen had lunch and hung out while Shane Welch and his team documented the fun.
Nina and Graeme chose to have their first look as a private moment with just the two of them. They met in Nina’s suite and took a few minutes to reflect on the specialness of the day. After that, Shane ushered the couple off for a few photos together before they joined their bridal party. The group loaded up on a Windy City Limo bus to take pictures around Lincoln Park. What a backdrop–and I just love that bouquet by Scarlet Petal!
While the bridal party was out taking pictures, the Five Grain Events staff joined Blue Plate and Scarlet Petal for setup at Café Brauer. Nina chose to feature family frames as a part of her place card table, which added a personal touch.
Once pictures were done, the bridal party arrived at Café Brauer for the ceremony. The bridal party walked down the aisle to the beautiful sounds of an acoustic guitar player provided by Stitely Entertainment. Not only did Graeme and Nina say personal vows to each other, but as part of their ceremony, their wedding guests pledged their support to Nina and Graeme as they entered into this next stage in life.
After they were pronounced husband and wife, the guests made their way out to terrace for cocktails and delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by Blue Plate while the Great Hall was prepared for dinner service.
Nina and Graeme’s “rustic elegance” theme was really evident in their table decor. Scarlet Petal created alternating candle and flower centerpieces featuring milk glass and gorgeous purple blooms which really stood out on the gray linen from BBJ. The mix of square and round tables added an extra special element to the room.
The reception kicked off with hilarious bridal party announcements crafted by Nina’s brother, James, a Planning and Strategy Manager by day and stand-up comedian by night. Nina and Graeme went straight into their first dance, which was followed by a welcome toast by Nina’s dad. A delicious dinner was served by Blue Plate, during which the Maids of Honor and the Best Man gave their toasts.
After dinner, Nina danced with her dad and Graeme danced with his mom before the dance floor was open to the rest of the guests. Nina and Graeme LOVE cheesecake, so instead of a traditional wedding cake, they opted for a cheesecake bar loaded with four different flavors. Late-night snacks of mini Chicago hot dogs and grilled cheese sandwiches kept the dancers’ energy up as The Stephanie Rogers Band rocked the dance floor until midnight!
Congratulations, Nina and Graeme! It was an honor being a part of your big day and I wish you both a lifetime of happiness.
