Sara and Mickey’s Chic Wedding at Ignite Glass Studios 08.24.13

I was so thrilled to be a part of Sara and Mickey’s wedding.  They were the fifth couple of a group of friends we have been honored to assist wedding-wise, all starting with Emily and Cameron’s  in 2011 (in case you want to catch up, see also Liz and HankEmily and Chris, and Julia and Brendan) .   From the beginning, I could tell how important it was to Sara and Mickey to have a wedding celebration that truly exemplified them.  Starting with a private ceremony involving only immediate family, to a “toast and ride” experience bringing their best friends into the mix, and then onto a reception at Ignite featuring amazing food and beautiful, summery, decor, it was truly a day to remember.

Sara started off the day getting ready at Mickey’s parents’ beautiful home in Evanston.  Since there was no bridal party, the atmosphere was über calm as Sara had her hair and makeup done by Steven Papageorge Salon and Lauren Frenden with just a few friends and Mickey’s sisters nearby to keep her company.  Anna Guziak was on hand to capture these special pre-wedding moments.

Meanwhile, Mickey was relaxing with his groomsmen at a pool hall nearby the home he shares with Sara in Andersonville.  Anna’s husband, Paul, got some great shots of Mickey with a few of his best friends.

As I mentioned before, Sara and Mickey chose to have their wedding ceremony attended only by their immediate families.  The couple shared their first look just outside of Howes Chapel on Northwestern’s Campus and moments later Sara walked down the short aisle escorted by her father.  The ceremony was brief, but included several beautiful moments including readings by Mickey’s two sisters, meaningful vows, and music provided by musicians from Stitely Entertainment.

Going sans bridal party was the right choice for Sara and Mickey, but they still wanted to include their best friends in a special way.  Mickey’s parents were kind enough to host a group of their best buddies at their home.  We arranged for a group toast to the newlyweds just after they arrived from the ceremony, and then the whole group climbed onto a trolley from Windy City Trolley to celebrate a bit more and get some group photographs before the hubbub of the reception began.

Upon arrival at Ignite Glass Studios guests were treated to exquisite hors d’oeuvres and champagne-bitters cocktails by Food for Thought.  There was a glass blowing demonstration going on indoors (and Sara and Mickey got to take home the piece he created–how cool is that?) while most guests enjoyed the perfect summer evening out in the courtyard.

The décor was one of my favorite elements of this event.  Kelly Marie from Fleur immediately locked in to Sara’s vision for the day–lush greenery with pops of bright poppy red and hints of lavender.  The centerpieces were placed within mix-match glass vessels and planter boxes.  The escort cards were arranged inside vintage drawers filled with fresh lavender buds.  Private Label Linens provided the gray backdrop which provided the perfect amount of texture.  The pièces de résistance were the mirage chairs.  Sara had been lusting over them from the start but we just didn’t think it would fit within her budget.  Somehow a little “wedding angel” must have been watching over us, since they magically appeared on wedding day!  It couldn’t have been more perfect.

Dinner was served station-style and featured an array of the bride and groom’s favorite foods:  watermelon-feta salad, pork loin, Maryland crab cake, orzo-stuffed tomatoes, and a warm bean salad.  I am salivating just remembering how delicious everything was!  There were some fantastic toasts given by members of Sara and Mickey’s families while guests enjoyed each others’ company seated at long tables.

Before long, it was time to party!  John from Style Matters DJs kept the dance floor packed under the glowing cafe lights provided by Elegant Event Lighting.  Food for Thought chefs served the hot and sweaty dancers ice-cold gelato with their favorite toppings.  Rather than putting out a basket of flip-flops, lady guests had the option to kick off their high heels in favor of a pair of neon socks to make it easier to continue the party until the wee hours of the morning.

Sara and Mickey, I truly cannot thank you enough for including me on your wonderful wedding celebration.  It was SO much fun to help you throughout the process, and then get to celebrate with so many of my former clients and friends on wedding day.  Wishing you both all the best for a lifetime of happiness!
