Katie and Jeremy came to Five Grain Events shortly after their engagement to help them plan their wedding. They knew just what they wanted, but also recognized with a short time frame (six months!), finding the perfect venue and vendors for their wedding might be a bit challenging. We were thrilled to be on board, and before long had a gorgeous Chicago institution lined up to host their elegant nuptial soiree.
Katie and Jeremy’s classic, romantic choices were a perfect complement to the clean-and-modern feel of the Modern Wing at The Art Institute of Chicago. From the soft elegance of the floral designed by Fleur to the ethereal draping and warm amber tones that warmed the space by Elegant Event Lighting, the details were all carefully selected to make guests feel a part of an intimate late-summer evening amidst a bustling city like Chicago.
Katie, her mom, and sister all got ready in Katie’s suite at the Loews Chicago, with help from Nika Vaughan Bridal Artists and Rachel McQuen. Katie’s gorgeous dress was lovingly made by the incredible designer behind Victoria Sdoukas Couture. It fit her beautifully, and was the perfect choice for a classic Chicago wedding. Her impeccable taste showed in every aspect of her bridal attire, and she looked radiant! Peter Wynn Thompson kept the mood light as he snapped all the details leading up to Katie’s departure for the first look.
They were all set and ready for the Mercedes Sprinter provided by M&M Limousine when it arrived, and were whisked away to the first look location to wait for Katie’s arrival. She pulled up in style in a vintage Rolls Royce (special thanks to Spencer at Ovation Chicago for being such a marvelous chauffeur!), and Peter led the way for her to greet her groom.
Katie and Jeremy stopped at a few more locations before hiding away in the Museum until their ceremony, and we can’t get enough of the timeless elegance captured in these photographs.
Guests walked into the Modern Wing to the dulcet tones of Artistrings, whose classical trio set the tone for the ceremony. The gorgeous ceremony backdrop, made up of one thousand paper cranes that Jeremy’s sons hand-folded as a senbazuru display, was a labor of love by some of our favorite vendors — Katie of Jayne Weddings delicately measured, strung, and packaged the cranes; Elegant Event Lighting expertly designed the structure, provided the draping, and hung all the paper masterpieces; and Fleur created a lush garland of greenery and floral blooms for the finishing touch. Jeremy’s family pastor officiated the ceremony, and before we knew it, Katie and Jeremy were married!
After the ceremony, guests ascended to Terzo Piano for cocktail hour, where they were greeted with Artistrings‘ jazz trio and a breathtaking view of the city. Bon Appetit served hors d’oeuvres and Veuve Clicquot, while guests were invited to grab drinks from the bar and enjoy a spread of local cheeses. Photos of Katie and Jeremy’s family members’ wedding days adorned the place card table, and gorgeous place cards by Studio M Creations (who created all the print pieces for the wedding) helped guide guests to their tables.
When the time came to move down to dinner, guests found themselves in a completely transformed space. The tables were beautifully set with linens from BBj Linen and gold-plated silverware from Chicago Vintage Weddings. The floral arrangements by Fleur completed the tablescape’s romantic elegance.
Katie and Jeremy’s wedding cake, made by Amy Beck Cake Design, featured a subtle blush ombre effect adorned with flowers from Fleur. To further satisfy guests’ sweet tooth cravings, we featured Katie’s Italian heritage with a spread of traditional Italian cookies – handmade by Katie’s mother and supplemented by D’Amato’s Bakery.
Soon it was time for Katie and Jeremy’s first dance as husband and wife.
Max from Style Matters expertly navigated the music from a relaxed dinner vibe to an energetic dance party!
Unfortunately, the night had to come to an end. As guests made their way outside the museum, they were greeted by buses from M&M Limousine to take them back to their hotels.
Katie and Jeremy, we had such a wonderful time helping you bring all the special details for your wedding to life! Thank you for choosing us to be a part of your wedding planning process.
