I knew when first meeting Jo and Joe (affectionately referred to as “The Joes” by friends and family) that their wedding was going to be an amazing event. But lets face it, could one ever go wrong with a couple that is clearly so in love and has chosen a venue complete with marble and gold accents, spiral staircases, and endless candlelight? With the city still buzzing from the Cubs World Series win just a few days before, Jo and Joe’s November wedding was not only beautifully elegant, but it was an incredible party.
The bride and groom both spent the morning with their families getting ready in their suites at the JW Marriott. The ladies received gorgeous hair services by Renee Feldman and makeup by Leesi B Cosmetics, each one looking beautiful as ever. Laura Kackley of Lark Photography arrived that morning snapping shots of Jo’s details for the day alongside lovely florals from Fleur. Gunnar Curry documented the day in film before Jo’s maids of honor accompanied her to The Rookery Building for her first look with Joe.
Joe finished getting ready and made his way around the corner to The Rookery Building where he anxiously waited to see his bride for the first time. Jo and Joe’s first look, on the breathtaking spiral staircase at The Rookery Building, was emotional and exciting. Lark Photography captured more photos of the couple around the historic building along with their wedding party, until their families arrived for family photos before the ceremony.
Once photos were complete, and as guests began to arrive, Jo, Joe, and their families retreated to a private area for their Ketubah signing before it was time for the ceremony to begin. Office building by day, The Rookery was transformed into a dramatic and romantic setting for what was a wonderfully touching wedding ceremony. Rabbi Adam Chalom officiated, while Art of Imagination provided the simply draped chuppah. The candlelit aisle was meticulously planned out by Jo herself and was executed perfectly by Exquisitely Strikeing.
After the ceremony, Jo and Joe shared a quiet moment alone as their guests made their way up the grand staircase to the Mezzanine Level for cocktail hour. While guests enjoyed cocktails and passed appetizers from Jewell Events Catering, the room flip below was underway. Once complete, guests were invited to return downstairs to take their seats for dinner. Jo and Joe were announced down the staircase by The Chicago Players, taking their seats and delighting in speeches from their families. Oh it was a happy day, particularly when Jo’s sisters announced the surprise of a lifetime – a live Gospel choir!
After such an exciting and amazing performance, it was not easy to get guests to return quickly to their seats. There was one last heartfelt speech from the bride and groom, Jo and Joe’s first dance, and an invitaiton to enjoy the beautiful dessert display complete with a delicate wedding cake from Sweet Mandy B’s, donuts from Glazed and Infused, and more sweet treats from Jewell Events Catering. Soon after the short break, The Chicago Players managed to get the energy levels even higher than they were before and kept the party going strong until the very end of the evening.
Jo and Joe, your wedding was an amazing highlight of the year. Not only was it a pleasure to be a part of such a perfect and elegant event, but we are lucky to have walked away with two new friends. Best wishes from the Five Grain Events team!
