Katie and Greg’s wedding was such a joy to be a part of. Every detail of the day represented something special to the bride, groom, and their families. The whole group was beaming from start to finish (even when some impending inclement weather brought us inside for the ceremony) and a great time was had by all.
The morning began at Aloft City Center with makeup by Izha Zylvanni and hair by Morgan Leek. Katie and her bridesmaids have all been friends for a long time and were having a fabulous time joking around and getting ready for the big day. Greg and his groomsmen were a few floors down relaxing before it was time to get dressed. Katie Kett captured their joy and anticipation just perfectly!
Once they were dressed, Katie and Greg shared their first look in a small alcove near the hotel. They were so excited to see one another for the first time!
The group loaded into a Windy City Limo and scooted around town to take some bridal party photos. The weather was iffy–I don’t think I’ve ever seen a weather forecast change so many times in one day–but they lucked out with some great outdoor shots. I just love the colors Katie chose for her wedding day. The yellow flowers created by Four Finches really popped against the gray dresses groomsmen’s black suits.
The bridal party arrived on the scene at Ignite Glass Studios with just enough time to cool off before walking down the aisle. Art of Imagination created the stunning backdrop and hung the fun lanterns from the ceiling. Katie created adorable ceremony programs which also doubled as fans. It was an intimate and whimsical setup for this lovely summer wedding which was officiated by one of Greg’s best friends.
With the uncertain weather prediction, we decided to play it safe and hold the ceremony indoors rather than on the rooftop. Though it never ended up raining, Katie and her mom both confided in me later that they were glad they had made the indoor decision: that they liked it better than “Plan A”!
Following the ceremony guests headed outdoors to enjoy the fabulous side yard at Ignite while the Five Grain Events and Twisted Oak teams readied the room for dinner and dancing.
Dinner was served family style following some heartfelt speeches by Katie and Greg’s family members.
Rather than a traditional wedding cake, Katie and Greg decided to serve cupcakes from Bittersweet. They did have a small cutting cake which was topped by a custom bobble-head cake topper. So cute!
The newlyweds shared their first dance and parent dances and then opened up the dance floor to their eager guests. Kate from Toast and Jam DJs really kept the party going until the clock struck midnight. Those who wanted a short break were able to hop into the Complete photobooth and grab some silly pics.
Katie and Greg, it was so much fun getting to know the two of you and your wonderful families! I wish you all the best in your future together! Mazel Tov!
