When I first met Kim and Todd over coffee, it was obvious that the two were in LOVE! With their hands intertwined they let me know their goals of an elegant, formal affair that 100% represented the love that they feel for one another. They chose the iconic Palmer House Hilton Empire Ballroom as well as a team of all-star vendors to create an event that was stunning and completely “them”!
In a gorgeous suite at the hotel, the girls started early with hair and makeup by Pin Me Up Chicago. It was a relaxed morning as they took turns with the stylists, and got into their dresses. I loved the beautiful one shoulder black ball gowns the bridesmaids wore. They were a lovely complement to Kim’s gorgeous ruched and beaded dress.
Meanwhile, in a another suite a couple floors up, Todd got ready to see his bride for the first time surrounded by his brothers and groomsmen.
Their first look was set at the beautiful Olive Park downtown. It was my first trip to Olive Park and I really loved the location with its epic city skyline view and luscious greenery. It created a beautiful backdrop for a beautiful moment!
Kim’s stunning bouquet was created by the very talented floral designers at Natural Beauties Floral.
After the first look and portraits were complete, Kim and Todd’s wedding party joined them for a Chicago Trolley tour and photo shoot around town. Everyone had a great time toasting to Kim and Todd as they rode around the city. Patrick O’Connell with Expressive Photography was there throughout the day to capture all the joy in photos, while Mike Ford was able to capture the fun moments in video!
It was time for the ceremony! Kim looked marvelous as she made her way down the aisle toward Todd on the arm of her beaming father.
Kim and Todd had many intimate and beautiful moments in their ceremony: thoughtful readings, personal vows, and a unity candle ceremony that was all officiated by close family friend, the Honorable Judge Cole. It was important to Kim and Todd that the ceremony not become a blur in the rush of the day. They chose to savor the moments by having their ceremony accompanied by the talented musicians of Innocenti String Quartet, as well as have special solo performances by bass-baritone, Michael Cavalieri. The result was very personal and very moving!
After the ceremony, Kim and Todd lead their guests across the hotel lobby and up to the mezzanine for the cocktail hour. Innocenti Strings greeted guests with jazzy tunes creating a festive atmosphere. Everyone enjoyed delicious hor d’oeuvres and cocktails while mingling and collecting their place cards.
When it was time for dinner, the Palmer House Staff lined up along the grand stair case to greet the guests as they made their way into the ballroom and to their seats. They were welcomed by purple lighting, and gorgeous towering florals by Natural Beauties Floral.
The energy was high as Tom with Style Matters DJs pumped up the music as he announced the wedding party and the new Mr. and Mrs.! Guests jumped to their feet as Kim and Todd came together for their first dance.
There was so much love in the room, and for a ballroom of that size, you can imagine the warm energy that surrounded these two! Heartfelt toasts from parents and siblings showed that these two families, despite their differences (the groom’s family being Bears fans, and the bride’s family being Packers fans) they were excited to come together as one big family.
Following the toast and speeches Kim and Todd made their way center stage to cut their majestic wedding cake created by the talented team at Cake. It was as delicious as it was beautiful!
Kim surprised her groom by showing yet another example of Bears and Packers fans coming together! Todd was totally surprised by this super-fun groom’s cake that was artfully created by Sweet Whimsy.
To the touching song “I Loved Her First” by Heartland, Kim and her father began the dancing for the evening. Todd and his mother followed with “Have I Told You Lately” by Rodd Stewart. It took but a moment for guests to jump to their feet to join the fun on the dance floor once they were invited up!
Tom with Style Matters DJs kept the tunes flowing and the dance floor full for the rest of the night! Guests feasted on the last night snacks that included a delicious ice cream bar and sweets table. Everyone danced till the wee hours of the morning, and were begging for more at the end of the night! I love this pic below, as it feature’s Five Grain Events’ own Lauren Boerman (to the right of Todd) getting down on the dance floor! Being lifelong friends with Todd, it was Lauren who connected me with the two lovebirds and I am so grateful! The rest was fate, and a lot of fun!
Kim and Todd, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of your lives on your wedding day! It was an honor to help you create a special event that I believe achieved your goal in representing the depth of love you have for each other. I wish you many blessing in your future together, and hope you always find joy and love when you look back on the memories of your big day!
