Aliy and Matt came to me a little less than two months prior to their wedding day, looking for someone to help make all of the details of their wedding at The Modern Wing come together. After chatting with Aliy, it was apparent that this couple had put so much time and effort in ensuring that the look of the day perfectly reflected their design aesthetic. The wedding was equal parts chic and personalized and I was thrilled to take part in it!
We began at The Wit Hotel where Aliy and Matt prepped, separately, with their bridal party. The Wit has the same sleek look as the wedding would have later in the day, which made it the ideal getting ready venue. Robyn Tornabeni and her team made sure the ladies were camera-ready for Eric from Allori Photography. The roof of The Wit made for a beautiful first look destination.
A few days before the wedding, Aliy emailed me and said she had some large, green balloons she wanted to use for photos. I loved the idea! We had just one problem – there is a worldwide helium shortage (who knew?!) and finding a place to have the balloon inflated was proving to be difficult. Matt and Aliy’s friends came through, however, and were get the balloons filled. Their effort was undoubtedly worthwhile. I love these shots around the city with the balloons in tow. Their chauffer through Premier Chicago Limousine was a great sport in helping to squeeze those giant balloons in with all the bridal party!
After the Art Institute closed to the public, it was time for the wedding to begin! Griffin Court in the Modern Wing was beautiful with the late day sun shining in. Aliy had a stunning grand entrance down the staircase; the artwork in the court provided a memorable and unique ceremony backdrop.
Once Matt and Aliy had become Mr. and Mrs., we headed upstairs to Terzo Piano for cocktails on Bluhm Terrace and dinner within the restaurant itself. Matt’s phenomenal graphic design skills were put to use on all of the paper goods which perfectly complemented Stems’ gorgeous, modern floral arrangements.
Following a great meal, Stitely Entertainment had everyone grooving on the dance floor. Matt and Aliy were able to sneak out toward the end of the evening to take in the amazing views from the terrace. Aliy was set on watching the Navy Pier fireworks but a little bit of rain looked like it might dampen the photo opportunity. Luckily, the rain let up just long enough for the perfect shot to end a perfect wedding.
Aliy and Matt, you are a beautiful couple and I had so much fun helping your vision come together. Thank you so much for allowing me to join in your day. Wishing you both all the best in your life together!
